About
I’m an Instructional Technology Resource Teacher for Accomack County Schools on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. I struggle to get teachers to dip their feet in the technology pond. Better luck with some than with others. Some really make an effort, others could not care less about using technology. There are sooooo many technologies out there that can be useful in a classroom, but often it is tough getting a teacher to even try it.
Some of the technologies I find interesting are blocked in my district, such as Twitter, and of course every social networking site known to man. Which of course brings me to the point of “how do we teach students to use these things safely if we can’t show them?” You can only go so far with screen shots and lectures. I am comforted in knowing we are not the only district in this boat. I recently read of a district that blocks the bare minimum they feel they must block to comply with the various laws.
So just what is this page about? Call it my various forays into the world of technology in education. I am not as gung ho as some, and more gung ho than others. I try to focus on technologies I think can really bring some good into the classroom without just being used for the sake of it. If a technology can legitimately make teaching and learning easier, I am all for it. If it is just a cool thing that would be fun to use, count me out. Teachers have enough to do without learning to use frivolous technologies just for the sake of it.
